cultural differences
Difference between white parents and tamil parents.
1)Girls
white family:
3-4 year old boy: Mommy, I saw a girl in the library and I love her.
Mother: O, so she is your girlfriend.
Boy: No, she is not my girlfriend but I love her.
Mother: So you like her.
Boy: No mommy, I love her.
(taken from a friend's post)
tamil family:
5 yr old tsb: amma, there is this girl in class and i like her a lot.
Mother: *stunned* what did you say, bharat?
5 yr old tsb: its true amma. she is very nice, she also gave me a chocolate today. can i marry her off amma?
Mother: *picks up slippers* what did you say, bharat?
5 yr old tsb: nothing amma. i m going to play cricket downstairs.
2)Education
White family:
Boy: *very proud* Mommy, I got like a 77 in my maths test.
Mother: Very good, sweetheart. Have some extra dessert tonight at dinner. *mom very proud now*
Tamil family:
Bharat: *very proud* Appa, I got a 95 in my maths exam.
Appa: *slow Rajnikanth head turn* What was the class topper's mark?
Bharat: I dont know appa. I think full.
Appa: *angry* WHAT? Why you only got 95 and ___ got centum? Why cant you get centum?
No dinner for you tonight.
3) Profession
White family:
Boy: Dad, I want to be a house constructor when I grow big!
Father: Very good my boy. They get around 30$ per hour. Im very proud of you.
Tamil family:
Bharat: Appa, I want to be a house constructor when I grow up!
Appa: *Takes out belt* You say another bad word like that again, Bharat, that is all.
Bharat: Ok appa. *Takes out Brilliant Tutorial PM/PD books*

hai barat,
that is not cutural difference, thats cultural damange. do u thing that the way of white family is right? no man that freedom misused by their children. but the way of tamil family treating their child may looke like crude, but its only to make a good tamil boy.....

Viji,
I do not think the white family is right, and what I hvae written for the tamil family, though true is a bit exaggerated. I am personally very proud of my tamil and Indian upbringing, and this post was just to show people how lenient white parents are. I cannot comment on how good the way they bring their parents up is, simply because I have not even experienced it in the full. However, my tamil upbringing, specially the way I was taught how to study and how to carry myself in front of people has helped me a lot here in Toronto.
However, I thank you for visiting my blog. I must mention however, that not many of my posts are serious. I write stuff just to get a bit of humour into our daily lifes.
Thank you again.

my dad's std comment .... the day u get 110 in math, u can go out after exams, ill get u something to celebrate, u can get my sign on the report card on the first day itself, etc etc ... the most uncomfortable situation in which this comment is used is ...
me (in the hall watching TV after dinner ... jus allowing food to settle) : sigh! good dinner ma!
appa : padichchi mudichtiya?
me : over pa ... only revision left.
appa : 110 varuma?
me (i know ive lost long bak) : ....
appa : go study!
and i trudge away into the damned room that holds me like a prisoner and is dishearteningly quiet and lifeless ... BRRR!!! i shiver at the thought of those days!

Watching Finding Nemo
White family
Son: Wow, what a great movie.
Father: Yeah, I like it too.
Tamil Family
Father: They should have taken Ranjikanth in this movie. It would've been so much better
Son: It's an animated movie, appa. No real actors.
Father: *takes out belt* What did you say?
Son: Nothing, appa. I just said you're absolutely right.
